Path of Exile Item Upgrading
Players can upgrade their weapons and equipment using new accessories. They can also increase its stats base or add additional benefits. To upgrade an item, a player has to have it in their inventory and have access to the kiln.
Items with weak bases, such as rings can be upgraded to a stronger base. Items with strong bases, such as eth Titans have little change in their stats.
Upgrade components
Upgrade components can be added to armors, weapons trinkets, weapons, and gathering tools. They can be used as an attribute bonus or an additional benefit, while the equipment is being used. They can be bought from vendors, or found as loot gathered by enemies or gotten from chests or missions. Certain upgrades can also be equipped with special cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be at a specific level to upgrade.
To upgrade an item of armor, the player must select it and then click the Upgrade button on the toolbar. This will show a preview on the right side of the screen, showing what the expected upgrade statistics will be and also the required element or material required to complete the upgrade.
There are three kinds of upgrade components: universal upgrades, prefix upgrades, and suffix upgrades. Universal upgrades, which comprise gems, can be put in any type of equipment, and offer lower bonuses than upgrade components that are type-restricted. Infusions are only placed in gear that is ascended and legendary equipment are similar to jewels but provide larger bonuses and cannot be used in any other equipment. Suffix upgrades, which can be placed in gathering tools, add their names to the end of the name of the item they are connected to, for example adding the word Glyph to a Staff Wrapping of Minor Vigor would transform it into a Canthan Staff Wrapping of Minor Vigor.
In the case of upgrades to gather tools If a player replaces one glyph by another the previous glyph will be returned to the inventory. If you replace any other upgrade component with a glyph, it will be destroyed, with the exception for inscriptions, which can be freely swapped.
Leveling
The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some significant changes from previous versions. Gear is now categorised in tracks, and each item is able to be upgraded so many times before it's "leveled out." The cost of upgrading increases with each level, however the materials needed do not. This allows players to focus their efforts on a couple of key items and maximize their impact, rather than spreading out the upgrade costs across several items.

Rerolling

These included things like the armor's total armor, thorns, and duration reduction stats that are controlled or the weapon's bonus attack speed and critical strike chance.
This has changed since the most recent patch. Priority affixes have been removed, and all upgrades have the same chance of rolling for each stat. This can be good or bad, depending on what you're looking for and want from your equipment.
Each upgraded item may be equipped with a special bonus that increases the power of the item by a set percentage or a flat amount. These bonuses are rolled over the standard affixes. The more you improve a product, the better your chance of obtaining an exclusive bonus.
The game also features various sets which grant a set bonus when three or more upgraded items from the same set are equipped on a unit. This is a great method to add a lot of power to a particular character without spending a lot of money.

To see if an item is worth upgrading, players should click the Upgrade button on the screen of their character. The attributes of the item will be displayed together with any required items. In general, weapons and jewelry offer more value for trade when they are fully upgraded than armor. Upgrades to gold are recommended for weapons with spells or glyphs that damage weapons. This will result in a significant increase in their performance. This will also increase the defense of armor that has a newer appearance.
